Director Chu: Lin Chi ling is more than empty vessel

Taiwanese director Chu Yin-ping praised supermodel-turned-actress Lin Chi-ling for her professionalism and is sure she will make it big in the movie industry.

The Ci Ling director felt that Lin's character as Xiao Qiao in Red Cliff was soulless and did not manage to bring out the actress's best qualities; whereas in Ci Ling, she worked in perfect harmony with Jay Chou for one month and the chemistry they present as young lovers in the movie should be highly regarded.

Though she was nominated in the recent Hong Kong Film Award as Best New Act for her performance in Red Cliff, Lin was repeatedly being described by critics as an empty vessel. China actor Sun Honglei has also previously refused to work together with Lin for that reason.

According to Taiwan Awakening News Network, director Chu is well known for his comedies and for transforming images of pop idols. And in Ci Ling, he crafted the demure top model into a female novelist with great humour.

Chu felt that through Ci Ling, Lin has been enlightened and is able to embrace any character with an open mind. She is on set everyday without fail, even though she may have no scenes for the day, to observe and learn from the crew, leaving Chu in awe for her professionalism.

Chu said, "I am sure nobody will call her an 'empty vessel' after watching her performance in Ci Ling."
