I really did grow up.”

The MV’s director picked a dodgeball theme for the MV that pitted guys versus girls in a friendly match as a backdrop for the song’s focus on falling in love. Jay Chou dating model Hanny Quinlivan

Jay Chou

Taiwanese singer Jay Chou has been rumoured to be dating model Hannah Quinlivan for some time now.

However, the pair had always played coy when it comes to the state of their relationship. Jay even challenged the media, saying, "Talk when you manage to photograph us."

Recently, Jay treated his mother to a holiday in Europe for 10 days. At the same time, Hannah had requested leave from her company, to celebrate her 18th birthday abroad.

A couple of days ago, an eyewitness revealed that Jay was spotted in Paris, together with his mother and a young girl, who was speculated to be Hannah.

Both Jay and Hannah's management agencies refused to disclose the details of the couple's trip, citing it was a "personal schedule".

On Aug 20, the pop star returned to Taiwan with his mother. Hannah was also spotted with the pair.

Jay whipped out his phone and started taking photos of the media, when they started to approach him. He later uploaded the video clip on his friend's microblog, to vent his dissatisfaction.

On the other hand, Hannah pushed her cap low and kept her head down while she texted and made calls, all the time ignoring the media.

While Jay and Hannah refused to confirm their relationship, the pair was spotted using matching bags, fuelling speculations that they are currently dating each other.

When reporters asked Jay's mother if she was satisfied with Jay's new girlfriend, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry. Thank you."

Ariel Lin and Chen Bolin promote drama In Time With You

Ariel Lin

The cast and crew of “In Time With You,” an idol drama that will soon start showing in Taiwan, arrived on Aug. 18 in Singapore for location shooting. The team yesterday (Aug. 19) held a press conference at the Marina Bay Sands, kicking off it’s first wave of publicity.

During the presscon, aside from lead actors Ariel Lin, Chen Bolin, Sunny Wang and Chen Kuang-yi, special guests stars Joanne Tseng, Jessica Liu and Malaysian singer Fang Jiong Bin were also present.

Director Winnie Chu said he had traveled to Guam, Hong Kong and China, but finally decided on Singapore to shoot some scenes.

He explained: “Singapore gives a me a passionate, warm feeling, as well as a very modern feel. Because of the different races [living here], there’s this feeling of closeness. And it’s very orderly here.”

The crew also revealed that every time Winnie shot a scene, he would look at the screen and exclaim “Singapore is so beautiful! We were right to come here.”

Ariel talks about what she thinks is a ‘good man’
Ariel, who hasn’t done an idol drama in three years, is meeting her fans again with her comeback drama “In Time With You.”

In the drama, Ariel plays a woman who had just turned 30, Cheng You Qing. Because of her bet with her good friend for 14 years, Li Da Ren (Chen Bolin) – that whoever gets married first before they turn 35 will get a “hongbao” (red envelope, cash gift) of NT$100,000 (about US$3,500) – You Qing has started looking for a prospective marriage partner.

Having known each other for seven years and worked together in three dramas, Winnie and Ariel are like family.

At the press conference, Winnie loudly praised Ariel, saying that aside from being an actress that he trusts [feels comfortable with, need not worry about], she is also a very intelligent and mature woman. At the same time, Ariel is very good at using her experience in life and making it a part of her performance.

During the interview, Ariel said she chose “In Time With You” because You Qing’s situation is very similar to where she is at this stage in life. However, she humorously stressed: "I am not yet 30 oh!”

You Qing had a target of getting married at “28,” does Ariel also have a similar goal?

She paused for a moment and then said: “ I haven’t set a target age for getting married, but [marriage is something that will happen] sooner or later. Just let nature take its course! I’m not used to sharing [my feelings].”

When asked what kind of man does she consider to be a “good man,” she said without hesitation, someone who shares her interests, who has a goal in life would be considered a good man.

She then added: "Our interests need not be all the same, but he should be able to make you wholly a part of his life, like his friends, family and things that he often does.”

While Ariel is very protective about her love life, when she answers questions about it, one couldn’t help but see the happiness and joy on her face.

Sunny falls in love with acting
Sunny first got known as the rumored boyfriend of Elva Hsiao. This is the first time he’s doing an idol drama and he said he felt lucky that he’s doing with veterans like Ariel and Bolin.

In the drama, Sunny planys Ding Li Wei, Cheng You Qing’s former boyfriend and Li Da Ren’s romantic rival.

Asked about the most memorable scene he’s done, Sunny said: “The first one we filmed, because I hit Chen Bolin [in that scene]”

This being his first drama, Sunny has learned a lot, such as when shooting a scene, one has to be conscious of the different camera angles and shots. He added that Ariel and Bolin had helped him so much and were very good at helping him get into character.

There’s always a first time, and after this first experience, Sunny said: "I love acting.” [he spoke in English]

As such, he hopes viewers can see his potential, giving him more opportunities to act.

How would the director rate Sunny’s acting?

Winnie said: “He has this kind of fatal attraction. His acting is very relaxed. There was this 5-minute scene which we shot three times, but in the end, I think we still chose the second one? At the time, I felt that he has graduated from one level into another.”

Such high praise from the director, an affirmation of Sunny’s acting.

Chen Kuang-yi is a born actress
A graduate of National Taiwan University, Chen Kuang-yi is quiet and looks more like the scholarly type – an intelligent beauty. This is her first time to act and she’s already won the role of the second female lead.

In the drama, she plays Maggie who likes Da Ren and views him as a marriage target. Chen said Maggie is more lively and pro-active in pursuing guys – her personality is quite different from hers.

She said: "To prepare for this drama, I had to look for something that I and my character share.”

At first glance, Chen looks like Vivian Chow. Chen said, people had said the same thing when she was a kid but she didn’t really give it much thought. She only took notice when she entered the entertainment industry.

What’s more, Chen and Vivian even share the same birthday!

"Little Vivian," this moniker, does Chen feel pressured?

Chen said: “She’s an actress that I admire, so the pressure is intense. But I hope I can come into my own.”

Chen and Sunny are alike, both are acting newbies. Winnie said Chen’s a natural-born actress. She just had to do 60%, but already gives off that 100% feeling.

“In Time With You” will be shown every Saturday starting on Sept. 24, 8p.m., be "I may not love you" from September 24 onwards, every Saturday at 8 pm, on Xing He Shi Jie Channel 825.

Shu Qi dating with Lee Hom again

Shu Qi Wang Lee Hom

Taiwanese actress Shu Qi and singer Lee Hom broke up three years ago.

However, the couple was recently spotted holding hands while taking a stroll down the street s of New York. They even took the same flight from New York to Hong Kong.

Last month, when Lee Hom visited his parents in New York, Shu Qi posted a map, which showed the journey from Hong Kong to New York, on her microblog.

The picture was accompanied by a caption, "Is a 15-hour flight very long? No, it's not. It's just a footprint away." This caused speculations that Shu Qi hinted that she had gone over to New York with Lee Hom and that it was a declaration of their relationship.

According to a Taiwanese tabloid, when Lee Hom arrived in Taiwan from Dalian on Jul 30, Shu Qi drove her brother's car to the singer's residence and spent the night there. The actress left at noon the next day.

Shu Qi responded to the reports, calling them "extremely absurd", and said that the magazine was making up stories.

On the other hand, Lee Hom's recording company emphasised that the two of them were just friends.

In 2005, Shu Qi and Lee Hom met on the set of the singer's music video 'The First Morning' and fell in love. After dating for three years, the couple broke up when Lee Hom stood the actress up for unknown reasons, which caused their overseas trip to be cancelled.

Cyndi Wang rumoured dating with actor Yao Yuan Hao

Cyndi Wang

On Jul 31, a member of the public reportedly saw singer Cyndi Wang and model-turned-actress Sonia Sui's ex-boyfriend and actor Yao Yuan Hao in Kenting, Taiwan.

According to him, Cyndi was sunbathing with Yuan Hao's friend on the beach initially. When they realised they were being photographed, Cyndi and friend immediately met up with the actor and hid in their car.

Just when everyone thought they would leave, Yuan Hao left the car and hit the beach in his surfwear.

It is believed that Cyndi and Yuan Hao became close friends after the former attended events organised by Yuan Hao's management agency. Cyndi's best friend Momo Chu is also signed under the same company.

Responding to the reports, Cyndi and Yuan Hao expressed that they met in Kenting because Yuan Hao used his time off work to surf and Cyndi was there with her family. The singer also informed her fans that she was in Kenting through her Facebook page.

If she was with her family, why were there only photographs of Cyndi, Yuan Hao and his friend?

"Cyndi was there with her cousin, his wife and their children. Her cousin-in-law did not want to get tanned, so they decided to shop instead," Cyndi's manager explained.

Is there a possibility for their relationship to develop further?

"We've already known each other for over a decade. If we wanted to be together, we would've done so years ago," the pair replied via their managers.

Ady An and Joe Chen new drama Xiao Xiang Beautiful Life

Ady An

Taiwanese idols’ prices go up once they go overseas. Rumors say that Joe Chen Qiao-En and Ady An pocket $170,000 and $180,000 RMB per episode (~$800,000 TWD). Therefore, although SETTV’s upcoming drama, “小襄的美麗人生” (Xiao Xiang’s Beautiful Life), was originally considering one of the two stars as its lead, they decided to have Janine Chang take the role in the end.

From the same production crew as “Love You”, the drama has already stirred up a lot of attention on the web. The network’s executive VP Su Li-Mei stated that Ariel Lin was her ideal Xiao Xiang, which led to a war of words between Ariel and Joe fans. Nonetheless, it will be Janine and Peter Ho to star in the new drama.

Drama production director Liu Si-Ming denied rumors of having contacted Ariel and Joe previously, “It was only an online discussion, and no contact was made. After the script was done, we felt that Janine suited the role better. Her schedule is also accomadating and we have no issues with her pay.” Liu Si-Ming pointed out that the production cost for filming dramas in Taiwan is much different than in the mainland. Thus, the actors/actresses’ asking price would be different. However, Liu Si-Ming does not feel that it’s wrong for actors/actresses to be asking for high prices, “This is a free market. The more expensive the actor’s pay is, it means the bigger the market is. We should work even harder to push the industry forward.”

Ariel Lin stop acting in dramas

Ariel Lin

Many speculated that Taiwanese actress Ariel Lin's health was deteriorating when she suddenly announced that she would stop acting in dramas.

Yesterday, Ariel, who suffered from a pituitary sella cyst two years ago, said that she would be reducing her future workload and had no plans of releasing another record.

While some speculate that the actress may be sick again, others questioned if she had made the decision in the name of love.

Ariel clarified that her ailment is untreatable and may recur even after surgery. Heeding her mother's advice, Ariel decided that her family is more important.

"I still love to act, but my health condition is not as good as it used to be. I think I should work within my health limit and set aside some time for people who are important to me," Ariel said.

When Ariel was filming her new drama series I May Not Love You in April, the actress had frequently fallen ill with tonsil inflammation because of the hot weather and her slow metabolism rate.

"It's tough to be the female lead for a drama series. It's like going through military boot camp, where [one's heart and soul] cannot have proper balance," the actress described.

Ariel's boyfriend Cheng Jia Yao had been visiting her on the set constantly.

When asked if she was departing showbiz because of love, Ariel laughed, "I merely wanted him to understand my job. After all, he may be my family member in future."

However, the actress wished for privacy when it came to marriage.

"I've always lived up to everyone's expectations throughout the years. When it comes to [marriage], I may want to be a little selfish," Ariel said, suggesting that she would not be having a high-profile wedding.

Takeshi Kaneshiro dating with a mysterious girl

Takeshi Kaneshiro

Was it a ruse when actor Takeshi Kaneshiro claimed that he is single a few months ago?

Takeshi had always kept a low profile when it came to his love life. However, the heartthrob was spotted with a girl two days ago, fuelling speculations that he is currently dating.

According to Taiwanese media reports, Takeshi had taken a flight from Hong Kong back to Taiwan with his manager on June 23. After he touched down, he was seen heading towards a high-end apartment near the Taiwanese Palace Museum.

The actor reportedly did not leave the apartment for the next three days. On June 24, a girl was spotted entering the residence holding a bag of fast food.

Takeshi was finally seen leaving the apartment on June 26 with the mysterious girl. While Takeshi waited in the car, the girl went to get food.

When reporters approached the girl for an interview, she immediately covered her mouth and avoided the camera. In a surprise gesture, Takeshi helped to block her from the camera. The pair did not respond to any questions asked.

A reporter later noticed that the girl was wearing a ring, which resembled the one Takeshi wore when he promoted Red Cliff in 2009. This fuelled rumours that the pair was seeing each other.

Responding to the rumour, Takeshi's manager agitatedly said, "This is impossible! Definitely impossible! This is so absurd! I'm angry!"

She emphasised that Takeshi is currently single and that the girl was just a friend. The manager also threatened to take legal action if necessary.

David Tao becomes One Million Star judge

David Tao

The new (Chinese) One Million Star recorded their first episode on the 20th. For this season, the show has invited David Tao, Albert Leung (Lin Xi), James Li, and Kay Huang to be the judges. Eighty-four contestants performed and half have already been eliminated. Host Matilda Tao revealed, “The judges eliminated ten contestants in a roll! I saw the other contestants holding hands and crying together backstage just now!”

Matilda calls James the “ruthless judge”; James agreed, “I think I am too ruthless, but then I thought, if they can’t even handle something like this, how are they going to survive in showbiz?” The award-winning lyricist, Albert, who has written over 3000 song lyrics, is a judge for the first time. He expressed that he is a man with compassion, but has discovered his dark side after this show, “It’s the first time I’m deciding someone else’s fate, and can feel the power and desire. After recording the first episode, I realize that I was very despicable in pressing the light (strict on giving points). I prefer those with emotions over techniques.”

It’s also David’s first time being a judge at a singing competition show. He expressed that he would like to hear the contestants sing more of their own works instead of pretending to sing like other singers, “They need to have feelings instead of being like a robot. If they have potential, I won’t rule out the possibility of signing and training them.” However, David’s opinion seem to collide with John Yuan’s, who has been a judge for the show since season 1, “The ones we think are not okay, he actually thinks they’re fine. Maybe they are good contestants, but I think that possibility is very low!” Matilda immediately teased, “We only kept him (John) on the show out of compassion.”

For this new season, Matilda’s pay has also doubled to $250,000 TWD per episode. David, Albert, and James brought their managers, stylists, and assistants along, totalling eighteen people, costing $2 million TWD. As a result, each episode costs $4 million TWD to make. Matilda explained, “We’ve renamed the show to ‘Chinese’ One Million Star because we want to include all Chinese people in the world. We want to find the next Jay Chou, the next David Tao. Unlike other shows that likes to do things for fame, we are very strict on choosing contestants. But our judges will definitely not eliminate a contestant on purpose just to marry them home (referring to Jerry Huang).”

Kenji Wu and Rhydian Vaughan in idol drama Bai Nian Hao He

Kenji Wu

CTV announced their new self-produced idol drama project yesterday called, “百年好合” (Bai Nian Hao He / rough trans: Together Forever). For a refreshing cast combo, they especially invited singer Kenji Wu and Rhydian Vaughan to star in the drama as chefs. It has been eight years since Kenji’s last drama, but he confidently said, “I will act well.” Kenji has also taken part in the drama’s screenwriting meetings and encourages his costars, “We’re all in the same boat. We must not fail, and we must not drag anyone else down.”

Kenji even provided input on the cast's costumes. Kenji commented, “God! I don’t want to be minding so much either!” but admitted that he had a good feeling about the drama after the audition, “Otherwise if the tone is off, it’ll be very hard (to act in it).” Kenji revealed that he previously had turned down many drama offers due to his music career; after he accepted this drama offer, he has been doing his homework by watching dramas that are currently airing.

Rhydian Vaughan is also a fresh face to TV dramas. He rose to fame after filming the movies “Winds of September” and “Monga”. Rhydian recently graduated from EAST 15 Acting School in United Kingdom and is already loaded with work. Even Kenji feels the pressure from the rising star, “I heard that he has a six-pack, so I’d better work on my eight-pack.” The drama crew also revealed that Kenji and Rydian like to compete to see who arrives to their training sessions the earliest.

Rainie Yang promoting latest drama While We Were Drunk

Rainie Yang

The Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang was in town over the weekend with co-star Joseph Chang, promoting their latest drama ‘While We Were Drunk’

How often do you get to kiss your high-school sweetheart after you've broken up with each other? For Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang, it was almost 10 years later.

Yesterday, Rainie and co-star Joseph Chang were in town to promote their latest idol drama While We Were Drunk. Upon arriving at the press conference held at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, the chatty actress started off by asking the media if they had lunch.

In While We Were Drunk, Rainie plays Lin Xiao Ru, a girl who accidentally marries Song Jie Xiu (played by Joseph Chang) while they were drunk. The couple quickly realises their error once they sobered up, resulting in them trying to undo every mistake they made in the last 24 hours.

Apart from her "husband" Jie Xiu, there were two other men in Xiao Ru's life -- her ex-boyfriend Ren Yi Xiang (played by Kingone Wang) and her boss-cum-childhood friend Daniel Geng (played by Alien Huang).

Rainie and Alien had dated during their high-school days.

On acting with Alien for the first time, Rainie first let out an uncomfortable giggle before admitting "it's awkward to kiss Alien".

"I think you all know my relationship with him [Alien Huang]. It's the first time we're acting together; even though it was just a peck on the lips, I felt really shy," the 26-year-old replied.

Rainie Yang felt "more sparks" with Joseph Chang

Rainie then said that she felt "more sparks" when acting with Joseph.

"That's probably because the scenes [with Joseph] are more romantic. The one which I shared a kiss with Alien is not very romantic," Rainie explained quickly.

While We Were Drunk is touted as the sequel to Fated to Love You, the most well-received Taiwanese idol drama to date, and boasts of many passionate bed scenes.

However, the pair clarified that their drama "is not a direct sequel to Fated to Love You" and had a vastly different plot from its predecessor.

"There would definitely be comparisons [between the various dramas]; but all we [the actors] can do is to do our best," Rainie answered.

Commenting on the intimate scenes, Joseph said, "I started my first day of filming with the most passionate scene in the drama. It helped to build our chemistry with each other and we don't really feel awkward with each other later."

Many firsts for Rainie Yang

This was the first time Rainie sported a short hair cut in a drama. In all of her other dramas, where she was the female lead, the actress had long hair.

Rainie admitted that she was afraid of how the audience would take her new image initially. However, she later felt that "if Xiao Ru [Rainie's character] had long hair, it wouldn't be her anymore", suggesting that the actress was satisfied with the final result.

The short hair cut definitely gave Rainie a more matured look, which fitted her role as somebody's wife -- another first for her.

When asked if she did anything to prepare for her role, Rainie said, "I'm actually similar to my character, in that we've not been married before. I didn't do any special homework on how to portray Xiao Ru because she was thrown into marriage suddenly; so I just went along with the situations in the drama."

The actress let on that she did, however, take a month to get used to wearing the wedding ring -- which was encrusted with real diamonds -- on her ring finger. She would take every chance she had, including during meals, to take it off her finger.

While We Were Drunk premieres on Jun 26, every Sunday, 8pm on E City (StarHub TV Channel 825).

Aaron Yan revealed that Fahrenheit's Wu Chun will be quitting the group.
Aaron Yan was in Hong Kong yesterday attending a promotional event for the upcoming movie "Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon". During the event Aaron indirectly mentioned that Wu Chun would be leaving Fahrenheit.

One of the reasons for Wu Chun's departure was so he could concentrate on his movie career. With roles in hit movies such as "My Kingdom", Wu's career has been taking off. His promotions with the group have taken up much of his time which he now wants to dedicate to acting.

Another reason for Wu Chun quiting the group is so he could spend more time with his family. Although Aaron is afraid the news will leave fans disappointed, he is also hopeful that they'll return to the stage as a group once again.

"A 4 member Fahrenheit may feel more complete, but a 3 member group will still have their own strength," Aaron stated.

Cyndi Wang Bed Scenes with Mike He in drama Love Keeps Going

Mike He Cyndi Wang

Cyndi Wang and Mike He had exotic bed scenes in idol drama "Love Keeps Going". This made Xiaomei self-mock that this drama had "three many": many lines, many kissing scenes, and many revealings (of his body). However, their good acting skills made the people at the side tease that there must be true love, causing the two who were bothered by the scandal to push to the director, laughing that it was because the director had taught them well!

The director also made Xiaomei reveal his butt. Eli Si laughed that Xiaomei had a better figure, so why not just let him show it! Cyndi Wang previously filmed an MV with Show Luo. Xiaomei teased that they were collaborating on the album, so Cyndi Wang replied saying “Our bed scene is powerful enough!” Xiaomei immediately cleared that their collaboration was on the mental scale!

Xiaomei also sang a song in this drama; however, he laughed that he had not trained adequately and thus was unwilling to sing live. He said that if the ratings were to break 2 points he would sing, but then changed his mind to 26 points afterward! Cyndi Wang praised that Xiaomei was very serious and also encouraged Xiaomei that singing could be practiced! When asked whether the two of them had a chance of collaborating in Cyndi Wang’s next album, Xiaomei immediately jumped in to say that his work was very busy; he only sang this time because of the character. He laughed and said that hopefully he did not scare anyone with his singing. He also pulled his good friend Joe Zheng into the waters. He laughed “If Xiaozong can sing and dance, I can follow his steps”. This made it seem like he had confidence with his singing, however, he avoided it when he was asked to sing live.

Joseph Chang and Rainie Yang bed scene in drama Love You

Rainie Yang Joseph Chang

Joseph Chang and Rainie Yang’s bed scene sure helped the drama boost its ratings. Episode six of “Love You” scored an average of 4.22% last Sunday, becoming the winner of its time slot. Both Joseph and Tom Price have agreed to dive into the water if ratings break 5%. Seeing that the drama is not far from the mark, the two actors have already started working out. However, netizens are not quite satisfied with just a dive, some have requested for Joseph to go skinny dipping like Ethan Ruan when ratings reaches 10%.

Five particular scenes scored above 5% on last Sunday, which included Joseph and Rainie’s bed scene, Joseph and Rainie making buns, Joseph and Rainie being surrounded by love songs, the tension between Joseph, Rainie and Tiffany Hsu’s love-triangle, and Joseph and Lin Mei-Shiu’s conversation.

Although many viewers expressed liking the main couple a lot, some worried, “If this goes on, wouldn’t it make the female lead the one stealing someone else’s love? Will this become the ‘Fierce Third Person’?” -- referencing the hit series "Fierce Wife". On the other hand, others commented, “The two lead characters already got married. It was his ex-girlfriend (Tiffany) who didn’t cherish him, so you can’t blame Xiao-Ru (Rainie)!”
