Ming Dao replaced Eddie Peng in drama Wu Yen

Ming Dao

As we previously reported, Eddie Peng was rumored to be potentially casted in SETTV’s new drama, “鍾無艷” (Wu Yen). But news just came out today that it will be Ming Dao to play the role. Furthermore, he is willing to take an 80% pay cut for it! Just yesterday, Ming Dao went to SETTV to try out the different image styles for the new role.

Three years ago, after finishing the drama, Ying Ye 3 Jia 1 (櫻野3加1), Ming Dao left SETTV and ventured to the Mainland because he felt the pay at SETTV was too low. As the top Taiwanese idol drama lead, his pay rose up to a hundred fifty thousand RMB per episode (~ NT$710,000). Although he has starred in other dramas in the last few years like Knock Knock Loving You and Always Smile!, the ratings to these dramas were unable to break his previous records at SETTV. In order to maintain his top status as an idol drama actor, he is willing to give up his high pay in Mainland to take on a new project in Taiwan.

In the past few years, Ming Dao and Ethan Ruan have often been in the news regarding being casted in dramas. Ming Dao’s popularity skyrocketed after starring in the 2005 hit series, Prince Turns To Frog. He turned down the role for Fated To Love You, which went to Ethan Ruan. Fated To Love You surpassed Prince Turns To Frog and became the highest rated idol drama in history and of course, Ethan has been on the rise ever since. It’s hard not to imagine that Ming Dao must have regretted not taking the role.

SETTV’s new drama, Wu Yen, has been having a tough time casting their male lead. There have been rumors of casting Ethan Ruan or Eddie Peng. However, Ethan has decided to continue his path in movies, while other rumors say that Eddie was out of question due to his high price. In any case, Ming Dao fans will be pleased to hear that he is coming back to the Taiwanese drama market to snatch some high ratings.

Eddie Peng's 5 Year Frozen Voice to Fight for Album

Eddie Peng

Ever since Eddie Peng’s debut he has mainly been filming, but he finally can embrace the “dreams of being a singer”, but simply because of his looks and singing talent couldn’t be sided. Signed with Sony but frozen for 5 years, never thought going out with Jolin, because of the little queen’s contact, lately he’s stimulated to try the music industry. After hearing this his previous manager Liu Hui Ci actually said: “Which company would dare to produce? He and I still have a contract period, there’s still a court date this 6th.”

Singing ability and appearance is said too far apart

Eddie has always wanted to be a singer, the year before while he filmed idol drama “Honey & Clover”, had actually formed the group Clover with the cast Joe Cheng and others to produce TV OST, at that time he recorded it word by word, a lot of people said after hearing it: “singing ability and appearance is too far apart.”

He also at the time confessed if you’re not from that industry you don’t understand that industry, singing really relies on natural talents, but he was still influenced by Jolin, again the thought of being a singer ignited. It is reported lately he has quietly recorded a new album, and has gone about to finalize the new song’s MV with the director, except some directors that know he is in conflict with contracts, doesn’t want to get pulled in the water to decline filming.

Ex-manager says once recorded good voice has called cuts

He has asked previously teachers Bao Xiao Chong, Komatsu, Chen Jun Ting to learn singing, rumours says his voice is helpless, his ex-manager Liu Hui Ci said: “He was with Sony BMG for 5 years, once all the promotional pictures were filmed, at the end it was not produced, that is because of his voice abilities, the record company does not have confidence, at the end gave up.”

She said: “Not only the 5-6 teachers teaching him singing, I can only say his voice is special, at least the technology today can do anything, using technology can help.” On Eddie’s side his line is not answered, there’s no response to answer.

Towards this, ‘Star Power’ did not wish to make a reply, insisting that proceedings have not yet been finalised and the judge will have the final say.

Eddie Peng responsible for his own dip in popularity

eddie peng

Contractual issues between Taiwanese pop idol Eddie Peng and his manager brought the duo to court. Despite being in court twice, they were unable to reach any consensus.

His manager said, "I will stop, at all costs, anyone who tries to ignore the rules and regulations of showbiz."

According to reports, Peng's contract was supposed to end only in July 2010 but he has not received any assignments for a long time. His manager had plans to extend Peng's contract, but the latter has been delaying his reply by saying that it is still a long way to end of the contract. The duo later found themselves amidst disagreements in terms of both assignments and income.

It was rumoured that Peng is disgruntled that the company has not been able to achieve the amount of income he has been promised, sparking off this court case.

The manager said, "He claimed to be a movie actor and declined to take on 'low-class' jobs. Can he blame me? Eddie, I've never done you wrong. You need to understand that you need luck to get famous."

The TV drama Wayward Kenting raised his popularity which was also fanned by rumours of his relationship with Taiwanese pop diva Jolin Tsai.
