Rainie Yang promoting latest drama While We Were Drunk

Rainie Yang

The Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang was in town over the weekend with co-star Joseph Chang, promoting their latest drama ‘While We Were Drunk’

How often do you get to kiss your high-school sweetheart after you've broken up with each other? For Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang, it was almost 10 years later.

Yesterday, Rainie and co-star Joseph Chang were in town to promote their latest idol drama While We Were Drunk. Upon arriving at the press conference held at the Conrad Centennial Singapore, the chatty actress started off by asking the media if they had lunch.

In While We Were Drunk, Rainie plays Lin Xiao Ru, a girl who accidentally marries Song Jie Xiu (played by Joseph Chang) while they were drunk. The couple quickly realises their error once they sobered up, resulting in them trying to undo every mistake they made in the last 24 hours.

Apart from her "husband" Jie Xiu, there were two other men in Xiao Ru's life -- her ex-boyfriend Ren Yi Xiang (played by Kingone Wang) and her boss-cum-childhood friend Daniel Geng (played by Alien Huang).

Rainie and Alien had dated during their high-school days.

On acting with Alien for the first time, Rainie first let out an uncomfortable giggle before admitting "it's awkward to kiss Alien".

"I think you all know my relationship with him [Alien Huang]. It's the first time we're acting together; even though it was just a peck on the lips, I felt really shy," the 26-year-old replied.

Rainie Yang felt "more sparks" with Joseph Chang

Rainie then said that she felt "more sparks" when acting with Joseph.

"That's probably because the scenes [with Joseph] are more romantic. The one which I shared a kiss with Alien is not very romantic," Rainie explained quickly.

While We Were Drunk is touted as the sequel to Fated to Love You, the most well-received Taiwanese idol drama to date, and boasts of many passionate bed scenes.

However, the pair clarified that their drama "is not a direct sequel to Fated to Love You" and had a vastly different plot from its predecessor.

"There would definitely be comparisons [between the various dramas]; but all we [the actors] can do is to do our best," Rainie answered.

Commenting on the intimate scenes, Joseph said, "I started my first day of filming with the most passionate scene in the drama. It helped to build our chemistry with each other and we don't really feel awkward with each other later."

Many firsts for Rainie Yang

This was the first time Rainie sported a short hair cut in a drama. In all of her other dramas, where she was the female lead, the actress had long hair.

Rainie admitted that she was afraid of how the audience would take her new image initially. However, she later felt that "if Xiao Ru [Rainie's character] had long hair, it wouldn't be her anymore", suggesting that the actress was satisfied with the final result.

The short hair cut definitely gave Rainie a more matured look, which fitted her role as somebody's wife -- another first for her.

When asked if she did anything to prepare for her role, Rainie said, "I'm actually similar to my character, in that we've not been married before. I didn't do any special homework on how to portray Xiao Ru because she was thrown into marriage suddenly; so I just went along with the situations in the drama."

The actress let on that she did, however, take a month to get used to wearing the wedding ring -- which was encrusted with real diamonds -- on her ring finger. She would take every chance she had, including during meals, to take it off her finger.

While We Were Drunk premieres on Jun 26, every Sunday, 8pm on E City (StarHub TV Channel 825).

Joseph Chang and Rainie Yang bed scene in drama Love You

Rainie Yang Joseph Chang

Joseph Chang and Rainie Yang’s bed scene sure helped the drama boost its ratings. Episode six of “Love You” scored an average of 4.22% last Sunday, becoming the winner of its time slot. Both Joseph and Tom Price have agreed to dive into the water if ratings break 5%. Seeing that the drama is not far from the mark, the two actors have already started working out. However, netizens are not quite satisfied with just a dive, some have requested for Joseph to go skinny dipping like Ethan Ruan when ratings reaches 10%.

Five particular scenes scored above 5% on last Sunday, which included Joseph and Rainie’s bed scene, Joseph and Rainie making buns, Joseph and Rainie being surrounded by love songs, the tension between Joseph, Rainie and Tiffany Hsu’s love-triangle, and Joseph and Lin Mei-Shiu’s conversation.

Although many viewers expressed liking the main couple a lot, some worried, “If this goes on, wouldn’t it make the female lead the one stealing someone else’s love? Will this become the ‘Fierce Third Person’?” -- referencing the hit series "Fierce Wife". On the other hand, others commented, “The two lead characters already got married. It was his ex-girlfriend (Tiffany) who didn’t cherish him, so you can’t blame Xiao-Ru (Rainie)!”

Rainie Yang and Joseph Chang in film Love You

Rainie Yang

After four months of filming, SETTV/TTV’s “Love You” wrapped up their filming a few days ago. Thinking back to during the filming of the drama, Joseph told the media, “There was a crying scene for Lin Xiao-Ru and it really shocked me because she was crying really hard. I finally asked her what was wrong a week later.” Rainie laughed, “It really wasn’t anything, I was just too into my role.”

Rainie Yang go to Brunei with Wu Chun

Rainie Yang

Did Rainie Yang tour Brunei with Fahrenheit's Wu Chun?

Apparently, the singer-actress flew straight to Brunei after she clinched the Golden Bell Best Actress award for her role in Hi My Sweetheart last month.

Rainie had met Wu Chun on the set of Sunshine Angel, a drama serial due to be released next year.

The singer was reportedly seen going in and out of Wu Chun's house in Brunei. Her tickets there were believed to be booked by Wu Chun's assistant and his cousin helped with hotel reservations.

Rainie's agent expressed that the 26-year-old was indeed on a holiday to Brunei. But it was with her mother and not Wu Chun as reported. The agent also said that it was impossible for the duo to meet as Wu Chun was on a promotional tour with his fellow Fahrenheit members in China for their latest album Super Hot then.

At an appearance for her Sony Music junior Huang Jing Lun's new book launch yesterday, Rainie took the opportunity to clarify that she and Show Luo were just friends and had never been in a relationship.

She and Show were previously rumoured to be dating for a brief four months after filming Hi My Sweetheart together.

Jerry Yan and Rainie Yang for Fated To Love You Sequel

Jerry Yan

Nothing is confirmed but the management companies of both actors have been contacted by SETTV. “Fated to Love You” was a massive ratings success for the network back in 2008. They hope to recreate the same magic again with its sequel “醉後決定愛上你 (Drunken to Love You)” next year. As you might have heard already, SETTV has been in a slump (idol drama-wise) for most of this year ever since “Autumn’s Concerto” went off the air.

“Fated to Love You” director Chen Ming Zhang worked on many of the network’s biggest hits including “The Prince Who Turns into a Frog” and “My Lucky Star”. He moved on to direct more hit dramas for the mainland network HunanTV, but is now in hot water after the explosion accident on the set of his latest, “My Date with Spring”. Chen returned to Taiwan after the production team was disassembled. However, he has yet to answer any questions concerning the accident other than updating his blog. SETTV had wanted him to direct the sequel to "Fated" all along, but he originally turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. Now that “Spring” is on hold, he is rumored to be returning to SETTV to direct Drunken to Love You.

Many are awaiting Rainie Yang’s next drama after her big win at the Golden Bell last month. Her manager confirmed they have indeed received an offer but have yet to discuss any details. Jerry Yan’s manager said they are only in the early stages of contact. They haven't decided on whether they will accept the role.

Rainie Yang becomes sexy in Singapore Indoor Stadium Concert

Rainie Yang Sexy

A girl's got to grow up, and Rainie Yang is one that's doing so.

The singer, who is well-known for her cutie-pie image in the mandopop scene, wants a breakthrough come October at her concert in Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Speaking to xinmsn during her concert promotions in Singapore last week, Rainie revealed that she would like to present a sexier self on stage.

"After seeing some of my Taipei concert's performance clips, I felt that I wasn't sexy enough! I've decided that I want to challenge the limits of my sexiness during the Singapore concert."

Ten years into her entertainment career, the starlet is finally staging her first full-scale concert in town, following her first one at Taipei in April this year.

Dubbed as Rainie Yang's "Yi Xiang Tian Kai (fantasy imagination)" concert, the singer is sparing no efforts at letting her imagination take flight.

With a variety of costume changes in the concert's lined up, the pop singer promises a visual feast; a fairytale-like "Ali-Baba" inspired get up, loud neon clothes made of pink hair wigs and a creative furniture-meets-fabric fusion "crystal lamp" dress, just to name a few.

So, how will Rainie exude her sexy charms?

Pausing to ponder, the singer continued, "I can only depend on the gaze of my eyes! Considering my figure, haha...it's not possible [to look sexy in that way]... (laughs self-mockingly) Real sexiness comes from a combination of one's gaze and voice."

While she's preparing to wow local audience with a fantasy-like concert, Rainie confided that the concert bore more significance that one would think.

For one, the title of her first concert reflects Rainie's career as a versatile artiste, having shown her fans a mirage of persona from her performances as singer, actress and host.

On the other hand, "Yi Xiang Tian Kai" is the 26-year-old's way of redressing unsupportive comments lashed out by critics during her rookie years.

Reminiscing on her past, Rainie recalled, "During times when I wasn't look upon highly, people told me 'You want to hold a concert? You're indulging in fantasy!' Hence, calling my concert "Yi Xiang Tian Kai" is to prove that my thoughts are not 'fantasy'."

Indeed, the starlet has all the reasons to be taken seriously.

Recently nominated for her role in idol drama Hi My Sweetheart in the upcoming Taiwan Golden Bell Awards, Rainie Yang will be up for running in the Best Actress category. Her co-star, pop singer Show Luo, is also nominated for the Best Actor Award.

On her nomination, Rainie expressed joy, but emphasised that she harboured no ambition to clinch the tile. Instead, she hopes that her co-star would receive ample recognition.

"Show Luo have to win the award! I really feel that the [drama's] character was made for him. Without him, there won't be a second person who can portray the role. He's deserving of the award," said Rainie excitedly.\

Rainie Yang and Wu Chun in drama Sunshine Angel

Rainie Yang
Wu Zun

When boy band Fahrenheit’s Wu Chun was cast as the lead actor for the upcoming Taiwanese drama “Sunshine Angel 陽光天使” alongside Taiwanese pop princess Rainie Yang, many thought that the shy, reserved, and cool-natured Wu Chun would make an incompatible coupling with the passionately zany and attention-loving Rainie. Yet once the two famous Taiwanese entertainers embarked to Shanghai for the filming of their new idol drama, their acting took on an authentic air of sweetheart romance during shooting, and their professional relationship off camera has been remarkably warm. The duo has often been seen chatting and laughing together on the set, and not only have they been eating together frequently, but they also have flirtatious arguments and give off an affectionate vibe

Wu Chun’s cold disposition thawed by Rainie

Wu Chun has been especially much of the talk alongside female stars with frank personalities, having been in scandals with girls such as previous idol drama co-stars Ella of girl group S.H.E and Angela Chang. Co-starring with Rainie this time around, Wu Chun’s long-known cold disposition has been “thawed” by Rainie once they went abroad for shooting. For instance, prior to filming the idol drama, Rainie Yang had praised Wu Chun for being handsome. Moreover, once they started filming on location in Shanghai, since the temperature for their outdoor scenes was chilly to the point of shivering despite already being June, the two would watch over each other and also venture out together during meal breaks.

Ill-fated couple on-screen, animated pair off-screen

In the idol drama, Rainie plays a pure, kind-hearted, and easy-going girl who encounters an unconventional Wu Chun. The two of them have many scenes with conflicts, one which involves them in a shabby area eating commoner food as they scowl at each other like an ill-fated couple. But once the cameras stop filming, Wu Chun would commence with his teasing at Rainie's expense. He would also quickly say “You’re dumb!” to Rainie, and when she asks what he just said, Wu Chun would lie by saying that he told her “You’re beautiful!” Furthermore, since Wu Chun’s real name is Wu Ji Zun, Rainie came up with the nickname "Xiao Ji" to Wu Chun, which progressed their relationship much further.

Wu Chun’s management commented that Rainie knows how to create an atmosphere, and that she would often tell jokes to everyone on the spot. Furthermore, his management commented that Wu Chun has been easy to get along with, as both him and Rainie have been interacting with each other like any regular encounter. Whether there’s any sort of romance involved, Wu Chun’s management is not aware of any. Rainie’s management added by explaining that the both of them are simply good friends that work close together and bond well with each other, and that people should not look at their professional relationship too deeply

Fans cried over Show Luo’s forced kiss with Rainie

show luo

Rainie Yang forces kisses on Show Luo (Xiao Zhu). His fans were watching from aside and when they witnessed their idol being sexually harassed, they let out sounds of pain. There were even fans so out of control who immediately cried. It scared Rainie, and she had to explain to them, “We are only close like siblings, don’t misunderstand.”

In the CTS drama, , Rainie is the “violent girl” and Show is the “mushroom head;” the female is strong and the male is weak, this collaboration is very interesting. Rainie even changed from her normal pitiful character, turning from weak to strong. Earlier at Hangzhou, they filmed a scene where Show was forced a kiss. There were almost 40 Show fans by the side watching. The moment the lips touched, the fans let out sounds of sorrow. Show had to comfort them saying, “You all be good. Your honey (husband) is filming. You all can’t be because of this and be mean to Rainie.” That really worked, and the fans immediately were silent. However, this scared Rainie, so every time there is a kiss scene, she will first apologize to his fans. The interaction was really funny.

After Show’s comfort, his fans let their “Da Lang Honey (husband)” be given to Rainie without worries. They even showed their love to the person next to their idol; they too cared for Rainie. Everyday the fans help the two “add meals.” The 20 days the two were in Hangzhou, they were fed well; especially Rainie because she gained 4 pounds (2 kg). Her face on camera became rounder. The director even said to her, “This is what you guys get for eating buffet everyday!” The managers immediately warned them to control their diet.
