Patty Hou married with Ken Huang in Bali Island

Patty Hou

Taiwanese host Patty Hou will walk down the aisle with her fiancé Ken Huang on Apr 17.

Yesterday, the couple appeared at the airport, preparing to leave for Bali, Indonesia. The bride-to-be kept her smile on throughout the entire time when she was swarmed by reporters.

Decked in spring attire and minimal makeup, Patty wore a pair of huge sunglasses, which did not hide the bliss radiating from her.

She expressed that the wedding would be a simple affair. The couple had only invited about 30 family and friends. They did not select any church, nor would the wedding be on a beach. Patty also let on that the couple did not take any wedding photos either.

"We hope everyone would have a good time. It's not every day that we can hang out with our relatives," Patty said.

Looking casual in a plain, white tee and blue jeans, it was the first time fiancé Ken appeared in the media, which was probably why he seemed a little nervous. When the couple alighted from the vehicle, Patty held on to his hand tightly.

When asked if she was going to have children after her marriage, Patty expressed that it would not happen in a while.

"I have to start work once I return home. I think I'll wait for a year or two," she said.

Patty Hou married to Businessman Ken Huang

Patty Hou

There is finally a date to her wedding.

Earlier this year, Taiwanese sweetheart Patty Hou announced her engagement to businessman Ken Huang. The couple was supposed to get married in September this year, but had to postpone their wedding date as Patty's grandmother and Ken's grandmother had health issues.

Donning a semi-low cut dress yesterday, Patty accepted a New Year countdown hosting gig in Taipei with veteran host Xu Nai Lin.

It was the first time Patty wore such revealing clothes, causing her to be the center of attention. In a bid to attract more attention, Xu Nai Lin let on that the Taiwanese sweetheart would marry her fiancé in April next year. The veteran then said he was joking when he realised he had said too much.

"Nai Ge (an affectionate nickname for Xu Nai Lin) guessed correctly. It will be during the spring period. The venue would be overseas and it would be a small wedding. We're only inviting a handful of family and friends," said Patty graciously.

Patty added that she did not "want to have children so fast. I've seen friends get married and have children. Then they buried themselves in their children's lives." The host said she would think about having children two years later.

The host was once rumoured to be the third party in Jay Chou's relationship with Jolin Tsai. Patty was asked if she saw Jolin's concert and if she knew anything about Jay's latest relationship.

"I didn't have time to be there, but I saw Jolin's performances on television. The concert looked spectacular. I rarely take notice of unimportant news. If he [Jay] has a new girlfriend, I'd send him my warmest regards," said Patty.

Taiwan Host Patty Hou engaged to Millionaire Guy

Patty Hou

Taiwanese news anchor-turned-television host Patty Hou reportedly got engaged to a multi-millionaire named Huang over the Christmas holidays.

The rumours circulated after the pair celebrated Christmas with their families at an exclusive restaurant in Taiwan which they booked for the event.

Both Huang, 34, and Hou, 31, were educated in the United States and have been dating for months prior to the engagement.

Taiwan media reported that Huang is working in the finance industry and is the son of a construction mogul. His net worth is estimated to be over 10 billion Taiwan dollars (S$436 million). He has been described as being about 1.75 metres tall, fair-skinned, refined and fashionable.

Hou’s agent told reporters that “(Hou) has never denied having a good boyfriend, nor has she denied there will be a wedding in the near future, but it’s really not so soon’, adding that “the company will not stop her from having a secret wedding”.

Before her relationship with Huang, Hou was in a high profile romance with popular Taiwanese singer Jay Chou in 2005. She had even said in an interview that they got along so well that there was talk of marriage.

Unfortunately, the Chou-Hou pairing was not to be. Hou announced that they broke up in September 2006, after being together for more than a year.

When asked about his ex-girlfriend’s rumoured engagement, Chou, who was on tour to promote his new film “The Treasure Hunter” said, “I can answer but can this not be the headline?”

However, his publicist stopped him before he could comment on the matter.

Jay Chou exes Jolin and Patty forced to work together

jolin tsai

Former love rivals, Taiwanese television host Patty Hou and singer-actress Jolin Tsai cross paths once again as the former joins the latter as 7-Eleven’s latest ambassador. Patty and Mayday vocalist Ah Xin will play a couple in a series of advertisements for 7-Eleven. Although Jolin is no longer the sole ambassador, her contract with 7-Eleven still out wins Patty’s takings by at least more than once. Jolin’s earnings amount to NT8 million (S$400,000).

Both Jolin and Patty previously dated Taiwanese pop-idol Jay Chou. It was rumoured that Patty was the one who came between Jolin and Jay. Since then, Patty and Jolin have avoided each other in terms of work and appearances. However, the former rivals are forced to meet again thanks to this campaign.

As 7-Eleven’s ambassador, Jolin has anchored many of their major ad campaigns and products. Therefore, it came as a surprise when Patty was chosen to front the new ads.

7-Eleven’s public relations officer explained, “This is because the pairing up between Ah Xin and Patty will give off a more intriguing effect.”

As ambassadors of hot beverages, Patty’s laughter has left a very deep impression on a shy Ah Xin. She joked, “My laughter is more ‘man’ than Ah Xin’s!” and even teased the singer, “Are you intending to fly solo? Why are you the only one in Mayday who is filming this ad?”

On his impression of Patty, Ah Xin said, “My first impression of her was that she sounded just like a news anchor. In the beginning, talking to her is just like being interviewed. However, as the ad production started to drag into midnight, I saw another side to her, and realised that she is actually a very lively person.”

According to reports, 7-Eleven first approached Ah Xin before coming up with a list of possible female partners. Taking Ah Xin’s opinions into consideration, Patty was eventually chosen as his female counterpart. 7-Eleven’s public relations officer expressed that Jolin was not on the list.

In the advertisement, both Ah Xin and Patty play two people who are “more than friends but not yet a couple” and there are many scenes of Patty being embraced in Ah Xin’s arms. Response from viewers have been lukewarm with the main gripe being the scenes felt more like an older sister looking after her younger brother. This, despite the fact that Ah Xin is two years older than Patty.

Patty Hou and Jolin Tsai to co-host Golden Melody Awards

patty houjolin tsai

Taiwan's esteemed Golden Melody Awards (GMA) will hold its 20th ceremony this year. While organizers wrack their brains for new ideas to entertain, netizens are already getting wind on the proposed run-down and guest list.

On top of that rumoured proposal, Patty Hou and Jolin Tsai, both Jay Chou's ex-girlfriends, were arranged to co-host the ceremony. Organizers, however, said they would avoid such gimmicks.

Other speculations include Tao Ching Ying and Hou as hosts, while Tsai and A-Mei would appear as special guest performers.

The director of the award ceremony commented, "We have not confirmed the hosts; performing guests would definitely be a current popular singer.

Concrete decisions will only be made after the nominees have been shortlisted."
In previous GMA where Tao, Hou, Barbie Hsu and Dee Hsu were hosts, Tsai was prize presenter and Chou absent, the Hsu sisters together with the spontaneous Hou, role-played the "trio" involved in the love triangle, resulting in a comedy.

To play on both of J Chou's ex-girlfriends again would lack novelty. Past experience has also shown that both ladies have their way of avoiding such awkward confrontation.

Viewers however, can look forward to the appearance of AuYeung Fei Fei, veteran Japanese singer.

The Taiwan Golden Melody Awards will be held at the Taipei Arena on June 27.
