Joe Ma and Jessica Hsuan in series Special Duties Unit

TVB will be starting a new series mid-January Special Duties Unit. The series is led by Joe Ma and Jessica Hsuan and will highlight the lastest investigating equipment through different cases. With the latest equipment and new clothing, how will the Special Duties Unit protect Hong Kong citizens property and life? However, to avoid triggering audience sad memories, TVB decides to not add in the actual case of the Philippines bus hostage incident.

Last year, a Hong Kong bus tour was held hostage in the Philippines, the incident was a complete failure because the police did not handle the rescue operation properly, sacrificing 8 innocent lives. The tragic event led to anger and grief from the entire Hong Kong community. In view of this, TVB had decided to start shooting a new series called Special Units that revolves around training high quality Hong Kong Special Duties Unit and this will be the series selling point. Joe Ma was once a G4 in the police force, therefore he is the best candidate to play the person in charge of the Special Duties Unit. The team under Joe includes Vincent Wong, Him Law, William Chak and Benjamin Yuen. The group of newcomers are requested to have good physical ability, otherwise it will be hard for them to handle the difficult training process required during filming. As for Jessica Hsuan, she plays the person in charge of The Criminal Investigation Unit. Jessica and Joe will have a romantic storyline with dedicated feelings.

Producer (Lam Chi Wah) was asked if it's because of the Philippines tour bus hostage incident that he decided to shoot this series? He denied: "No, decided this type of series before the incident, it is something well worth to do. The Special Duties Unit no only knows how to use guns and burst through doors, but their operations have great deployment. Need to really have brains and high EQ. Some cases are also true stories and real people." Asked if he would add in the Philippines tour bus hostage incident in as a case? Lam reveals: "We will not use audience sorrows as a selling point, but will have other hostage cases. We will also be using the latest uniforms and equipment. This time the production cost for
this series is 3 times more than an average TV series." He reveals that there will be a total of 13 episodes, broadcasting every Saturday. Each episode will be about 1 case. The plot is very compact, and is in hope to bring an alternative type of series for audience to chase.

Jessica Hsuan as a villain in Sisters of Pearl

The entertaining value of a television series is usually attributed to the villain’s role. In recent years, TVB created several memorable villainess roles, such as Tavia Yeung Yi’s character in Beyond the Realm of Conscience "宮心計" and Michelle Yim Mai Shuet in Moonlight Resonance "溏心風暴之家好月圓".

Replacing Suspects in Love’s "搜下留情" time slot will be Sisters of Pearl "掌上明珠" For the first time in her 17-year acting career, Jessica Hsuan will be portraying a villainess. Sisters of Pearl also feature Bowie Lam, Kiki Sheung Tin Gnor, Michael Tao Dai Yu, Chan Mei Si, and Joyce Tang Lai Ming. Set in the 1960s, the story revolves around the three Chu sisters (played by Kiki, Jessica, and Mei Si) and their family pearl business. Due to the frequent bickering among the sisters over the family fortune, there will be many scenes with the female characters plotting against each other.

No Righteous Character in Sisters of Pearl

Jessica’s character will bear evil and greedy intentions, as she schemes to take over complete control of the Chu family’s pearl business. Jessica will have many scenes opposite Bowie and Michael as well.

Perhaps the most extreme villain will be Bowie, who will play Kiki’s husband. Initially, Bowie was loyal to the Chu family. However, after his father’s death due to unjust circumstances, his personality took a drastic turn and he became a sly schemer. Bowie manipulated Kiki and Jessica’s relationship, causing their sisterly ties to turn sour. He also became involved with Joyce Tang.

Michael Tao will play the Chu sisters’ cousin. His character appears to be cheerful, but he plots with outsiders to usurp the Chu family’s pearl business. Perhaps there is no righteous character in Sisters of Pearl.

A crew member on the set of Sisters of Pearl revealed that Jessica and Kiki did not get along during filming. They had sudden outbursts and disappeared during filming, making the Producer fearful of Kiki and Jessica. Allegedly, Jessica possessed diva habits and requested to nap for twenty minutes on the set [in between filming breaks]. This resulted in the other cast members waiting for her.

Allegedly, when the filming location for one of the outdoor scenes was changed last minute, Kiki was enraged and yelled at other people. Jessica and Kiki maintained their distance from each other outside of their shared scenes.

Jessica Hsuan, GEM and Kenny Kwan attended the press conference in Tsim Sha Tsui for the "Big Summer Smile Charity Activity" to raise fund for the animal medical care. Jessica has got 4 dogs at home therefore she is not looking for more dogs. She has been planning to live with her parents recently, and has started looking for a bigger property. Jessica expressed that she doesn't know what it will be like living with her parents sisnce she has been on her own for so long, and she is not sure if they can get on well living together. Jessica told reporter after she has finished filming "Pearl In The Palm" she went to England for a 2 week break. It was a coincidence that her old boarding school was celebrating its 20th anniversary and she saw a lot of her high school friends there. The other night, Jessica met up with her primary school friends who went to Maryknoll Primary school as well. Jessica smiled "It will be Maryknoll's school's 40 years anniversary next year. We are discussing how to celebrate that event, we hope we could invite Michele Reis to be back to our old school. Jessica was very happy to see so many of her old friends, some of whom haven't changed a lot in their appearance. Asked if she is the only one not married? Jessica said "There are many single women there. Nowadays, women are very career minded, some are getting married later and later."

Jessica Hsuan most admirable character in "Just Love II", Fans miss her appearance on TVB

Since the broadcast of (Just Love II), the most admirable character is Jessica Hsuan.
